Key Benefits

10

wellheads, ancillary equipment and 26km of pipeline infrastructure delivered by Costain.

Total investment

cost for Stublach facility of £350 million

Stublach has a Gas Storage volume of 400 Mm3

Solution mining pumps capable of delivering water flow of 45,000 m3/day

Costain worked with Storengy UK (GDF Suez) to deliver the FEEDs for the gas processing plant and solution mining at Stublach Gas Storage Facility, and was also selected as principal contractor to deliver the EPCm for the brine & water infrastructure. Our solution included the preparation and construction of 10 wellsites and the engineering, procurement and construction of the solution mining compound.

As the lead contractor, our approach to solution mining included two reinforced concrete degassing tanks, a pumphouse containing 10 water/brine pumps, nitrogen storage & distribution, a full distributed control system (DCS) and a new 33kV electrical substation. We installed 26km of underground piping cabling below ground to connect the wellsites to the solution mining compound. This infrastructure allows the client to respond to changing demand from the National Transmission System (NTS).

Protecting Wildlife

Seven ponds containing great crested newts were found within the Stublach planning boundary. We took significant measures to minimise our impact on their welfare including limiting works to outside mating periods.
